Justice

Somedays justice gets a break - DOMA was just struck down today.  5:4.

I need to read why Roberts leading the dissent had issues with this.  Open mind and all of that.

Yesterday's voting act ruling from him was strange.  Roberts cited figures that show the 9 states under the 'special' no change ruling have equal vote representation amongst races now.  That change is evidence that the law works.  And for Roberts - because there is no problem - he is voiding that portion of the law.  It seems to view the law as punishment that you can outgrow not as a rule to be followed - weird.

Kona south coast...

If you can escape to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau you can be absolved from any kapu you have committed. You will be cleansed, blessed and sent back to the tribe. Blessed be places of refuge.

We were a little late leaving the gate from San Jose to Kona - they had to deice the plane!  I didn't even know that they had the equipment to deice planes in San Jose!!!  But if you wanted a good motivator to get off to a tropical island - deicing ranks right up there!

Hawaii - the Big Island is lava rich - circling to land you could see the flow and imagine that heat it took to melt rock.  Rivers and channels of black rock cover the hillsides...

Nitsa's brother Calvin and his wife Angie couldn't be more welcoming.  Flowers in the bedroom, books on the tables - delcious food and drink...aloha.

Drat

too late

no sunglasses
no pedicure

must fix those things...mostly the sunglass part...

One more sleep...

When we were kids we use to say 'its only 3 more sleeps until <insert big event here>.  So its ONE more sleep until we leave for Kona.  I'm so excited I can't sleep!!!

Dave is driving Nitsa and I to San Jose Airport tomorrow - Oh Dark Thirty.  Let's just say I have my alarm set for 4am.

I'm not sure you can take a vacation if your are not working.  So I've decided to call this An Adventure.  Life should be less looking for a job and more about adventures these days...

Logistic note - Nitsa and I are sharing one big bag we will check.  And then we will each carry on one bag and one personal item.  Yeah TSA rules.  For me the 'personal item' is a backpack full of electronics - computer, phone, Kindle, ipod, camera, ActiveLink and all the accompanying plugs, connector cables etc.  Basically - spaghetti cables with lots of meatball like devices!

And my carryon has makeup et al, pajamas, swim gear and sunscreen - everything I need in case they lose my suitcase that will still allow me to have a fabulous vacation.

This of course begs the question -if that's all you need, then what is in the big bag to check?  Well - the big bag has my big flippers, my big dive mask and snorkel and many shoes and sundresses.  And oh yes - watercolors.  I always loved watching Virginia do watercolors while we traveled.  So I'm going to try that this time too...

Ok - babbling here - just need to hurry up and go to sleep so I can wake up.
